Chief Operating Officer Cheryl Sandberg said on Wednesday in response to growing criticism that automated operations had allowed people to buy discriminatory advertising. Or adverts that are offensive to a particular category, people, or culture
Sandberg said on a Facebook page that the company will have more manual review of the targeting options you give to advertisers,
ProPublica, a New York-based non-profit news organization, announced last week that it was possible to buy Facebook ads for specific people,
Facebook temporarily disabled some targeting capabilities last week in response to ProPublika's investigation.
Some US legislators have previously criticized some political ads on Facebook before saying that the Russians bought these political ads directed before and during the US election to influence public opinion.
Sandberg said Facebook should have discovered these ads automatically. The company will set up a program to encourage people to Facebook to report potential violations of their advertising system directly to the company, it added.
